This 2 year phased project for Central Bedfordshire Council at Russell Lower School in Ampthill provided additional classrooms, an extended hall, a new dining room, a library and offices. The project was completed in June 2015 with a construction value of £3m approximately.
At the official school opening the project was described as:
‘The most invasive and complex phased build CBC (Central Bedfordshire Council) have ever conducted on one of their assets, the transformation of the school is incredible’.
This was felt to be a reasonable summary of the extension and upgrade of what was in essence a relatively unaltered 1960s school.
By the end of the build no single room remained untouched, the school now looks vibrant and is considerably more inspiring than how it previously looked. It is hoped that the revamp makes a positive impact on the community, the school and the students.
