Axiom Housing Association
Design & Build
The site of the former Peterborough Educational Development Centre and the Officers Mess for RAF Peterborough was acquired by Axiom Housing Association, with the intent of converting the attractive main building for their HQ Offices. A large portion of the site was also identified as potential developable area and DT Architects were appointed to propose options for developing a high density residential scheme.
Two new build blocks were constructed , providing 30 new apartments. The blocks were carefully positioned and designed to avoid root protection areas of many mature TPO trees, while complimenting the architecture and site presence of the original building with the design elements being adopted and adapted as modern interpretations
Axiom HA provided a detailed brief for the scheme of general needs housing which was constructed to the Code for Sustainable Homes Level 3. The design makes use of the south facing form by integrating P.V Panels to supply power to the communal areas and external lighting.
The new development which is ideally located adjacent to Axiom HA's HQ offices acts as a showcase of the type of development they deliver in creating new homes in and around Cambridgeshire and Lincolnshire.
